Chapter Seven

Electronics and

Phone Calls

It is common for electronic disturbances to occur when a loved one from the Other Side is near. Radios, televisions, cell phones, and just about anything electronic may turn on, turn off, or work incorrectly. Sometimes the Other Side is able to use these items as a means to communicate to their loved ones.

You More

Fifty years after graduating, high school sweethearts Carolyn and Andrew bumped into one another at a local restaurant. It was like love at first sight all over again. Both had been married and divorced once before, and although the relationship progressed into a serious one, it was decided that they would live independently and without participating in a traditional marriage. They both had older children and were retired from good jobs, but they missed the companionship. Everyone who saw them together commented how romantic it was, and Carolyn and Andrew agreed. They were madly in love.

Carolyn loved Andrew’s outgoing personality. No matter where they went, it seemed someone knew Andrew and always had a kind word to say. They shared similar interests and became inseparable, meeting every morning for breakfast and most every evening for dinner. When Andrew didn’t show up at the local diner for their arranged breakfast date, Carolyn became worried. It wasn’t like Andrew to stand her up. He was as dependable as the sunrise and sunset and that was one of the traits that attracted her to him, because it wasn’t a quality that she had in her previous marriage.

They had just gone out with friends the night before; he dropped her off and kissed her on the cheek. Normally they would talk for a few minutes before bed, but she was tired and told him to just let the phone ring twice so she knew that he got home safe. When she heard the phone ring, she settled in for the night and peacefully slept.

Carolyn never failed to get excited to see Andrew, and that day she put on her favorite blue blouse and white linen slacks and made her way to their favorite breakfast place at exactly seven o’clock in the morning. But now forty-five minutes after the hour, the petite lady asked the waitress if she might be able to use their phone.

After dialing Andrew’s number and not getting an answer, she knew something wasn’t right and she called Andrew’s son. Paul only lived a couple of blocks from his dad and knew

immediately from Carolyn’s urgency that he needed to run over to check on his dad. Carolyn thanked the waitress, got into her car, and made her way over to Andrew’s house. Maybe he had fallen down and couldn’t get to the phone. He probably tripped over the stacks of books he kept in his bedroom, she thought. That had to be it. She kept telling him that he needed to let her unclutter his house.

By the time she got to the house, not only was Paul’s car parked in back of Andrew’s, but so was a police car and an ambulance—and she knew it was more serious than a trip and fall.
